I am a social documentary/reportage photographer based in Austin, Texas. I began my career in my native Oklahoma, working at a daily newspaper. I then expanded into documentary film, which took over my life for about a decade. I returned to photography 9 years ago, since which time my work has been seen in a wide variety of magazines and publications, including The New York Times, People Magazine, Fortune Magazine, Texas Monthly, and The Village Voice.
My personal goal is to communicate the truths of the lives I visit. By getting as close to the subject as possible, I work to experience the visual and emotional point of view of another person. While I know this is impossible, my presence is always there in the photographs, I want to create something that is about more than just me.
I am truly a voyeur, trying to inhabit other people's lives, bringing home the stories I discover with my camera.
