Yarka Vendrinska - Chicago, Illinois
Christened "a classical concerned photojournalist/documentary
photographer" by Woodfin Camp, Yarka’s 6 years as a professional have been a mix of personal
projects and editorial assignments. Her love of travel, interest in human
rights, social issues, environmental concerns, and labor themes have taken her
to places like children’s hospitals and rural areas in the former
Czechoslovakia, as well as many locations in the United States.
Yarka’s work has been published in national magazines including Hope, Human
Rights, The Lutheran, Who Cares, Response, and The University of Chicago
Magazine; along with newspapers like The Detroit Free Press, Charlotte
Observer,
as well as the Chicago Reader and other Chicago area papers. Her social
documentary projects have been featured in three solo exhibits and placed
Yarka
as a finalist in the 1997 Illinois Arts Council Photography Fellowship
competition.
