PictureDesk International is a photographer-owned and operated photographic agency. It handles assignments, a stock photo library and online distribution for its members.
It was founded in 1998 by a group of experienced independent news photographers who felt that the traditional agencies and wire services no longer provided a secure or professional environment for independent photojournalists and documentary photographers.
By joining together, these photographers seek to build an agency that will maintain professional standards for its clients while providing a secure business environment for photographers. For its members, PictureDesk will provide greater marketing ability for assignments and stock image sales, business administration, an online distribution system and global distribution of news and feature photography through its state-of-the-art e-commerce wire service!
By distributing online, PictureDesk can reach publications previously only reached by wire services or not reached at all. PictureDesk strives to enlarge the market photographers previously reached with this online delivery method.
As well as the electronic distribution of news pictures, PictureDesk also supports a traditional agency role by promoting and marketing its member photographers to editorial and corporate clients in order garner commissioned assignment work and stock photo sales.
